Sparking future scientists curiosity and creativity

Smart rubbish bin, lost-and-found alert device for the elderly, smart detector for water level of fish tank – these were among the creative inventions made by students participating in St James’ Settlement’s Teen STEM Maker Program supported by ExxonMobil in late 2019. ExxonMobil Hong Kong has been partnering with St James’ Settlement to organize various STEM programs for the youth since 2009. The Teen STEM Maker, which comprised a series of experiential workshops, was designed to fuel participating students curiosity and creativity in STEM learning through play and hands on experiments. Forty students from HHCKLA Buddhist Wong Cho Sum School and Tung Chung Catholic School joined STEM experiential workshops and sharing session from September to December 2019, during which the curious youngsters explored science and technology while unleashing their creativity to make products that promote green living and smart home. Future scientists have started their journey.
