Cultivating family bonding for grassroots families to spread love and support

Strong family bonds strengthen parent-child communication and encourage better behavior in children. With the support of ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK), St. James’ Settlement (SJS) recently organized a family caring program for 30 grassroots family members, which consisted of a day camp for participants to learn positive communication skills for strengthening family relationship, and a gathering to wrap up the program and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The gathering began with mini games which brought the participants closer together, after that all participants took turns sharing what they had learnt from the day camp and telling their loved ones words of affirmation to show their gratitude for each other and strong bonds. The families were then given the chance to make their own snowy mooncakes. Under the instructions given by the social workers from SJS, the parents and their children rolled out the snow skin, placed a red bean paste filling on each piece of skin, and shape the mooncakes with a mold together. They all enjoyed the process and had so much fun.

At the end of  the gathering, every participant brought not only snowy mooncakes home, but also gift packs from EMHK and beautiful memories.
