Go green and promote caring

ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK) is proud to have contributed to the success of the “10 Tonne PET Bottle Collection Challenge”, which encourages plastic waste recycling while promoting caring community. Organized by local social enterprise V Cycle, the program not only collected 15 tonnes of used plastic bottles between October 2018 and June 2019, exceeding its target by 50%, but also helped improve lives of elderly waste pickers and rehabilitation workers by offering job opportunities.

The plastic bottles collected in this dual-purpose project will be recycled to produce eco-friendly tote bags, which will be sold and the proceeds go to improving lives of elderly waste pickers. Besides, by being involve in the collection and repurposing process of plastic bottle recycling, waste pickers and rehabilitation workers are also given opportunities to earn extra income.

As a major sponsor of the“10 Tonne PET Bottle Collection Challenge”, EMHK has not only provided financial support to the program, but also actively participated through various means. Designated Esso service stations in various districts were made available for plastic bottle collection. Motorists could conveniently drop their used bottles when pumping fuel at Esso.

As an extension to the program, EMHK supported V Cycle to organize a community program on July 16, where EMHK volunteers spent a fun-filled lunch gathering with senior citizens and presented them with gifts and fashionable tote bags made by themselves with old clothes, bringing care and love to people in need.

In October last year, EMHK volunteers also joined a cleanup mission organized by V Cycle to pick up trash and collect recyclable materials at Ma Wan. The true success of the event was not only that the beach was cleaner, but more in spreading the message of conservation and care for the environment so we can all play our part!
